Made for the GIMP 2.6 (though will work on GIMP 2.4 too) 1. Take the image. Here's mine: 2. Fuzzy select and click on the lines. Copy, make a new layer on top and paste into the new layer. Then, on the background, take the paintbrush and choose a color. Scribble all over the tail with the Circle (01) brush. (By scribbling more, you get a darker tail. Here I used the colors #000000 and a bit of #4d4624) 3. Smudge it all together with the Smudge tool. I used the brush Circle (07) and 50% smudge rate. Feel free to experiment. 4. Color in the rest of the horse. 5. You can also give it a cool background using the blend tool. Here I used the Gold Fill gradient.
